How dirty is my keto, It’s bloody filthy!!

How dirty is my keto??

People like to take a thing and sub categorise it, whether to rebrand the thing or just to rename the thing to claim they invented it! If you’re over a certain age you may remember when cafés gave you the wide choice of tea or coffee! Long before the days of moccachocolatte, frappe’s and whatever else your barista can overcharge for. Even your desired cup size must be requested in Italian, otherwise your barista will glare at you with distain and say “Oh, you mean Grande.”

Well, the world of keto has not escaped this modern phenomenon, you can get clean keto, dirty keto, lazy keto, keto 2.0, 5:2 keto; I could go on and on. However just as coffee is coffee, keto is keto! However, you do it. Ketosis is the reduction of your daily carbohydrates, to a point where your body goes into nutritional ketosis.

To lose weight, your dietary intake must meet your current lifestyle, otherwise you will fail, and always fail. For example, if you can’t find the time to attend a Weightwatchers meeting every week, then Weightwatchers probably is not for you. As soon as the diet becomes hard or put more stress into your life, it is doomed to fail. Any new habit must be easy to survive, that is a simple fact of life. I am not here to say Slimming world or Weightwatchers are not valid means of weight loss, because they are if they fit your lifestyle.

People ask me “What’s the best diet plan?” My answer is always “Anything that works for you.” Now clearly, I am a massive keto lover, I will always try to recommend keto to anyone who asks me about dieting, because it fits my lifestyle.

Most of my readers will now know that I work 70 – 80 hours a week, mostly on nights, sleeping during the day, so my lifestyle does not allow me much time for food preparation or indeed cooking time, so my diet must be quick and more importantly very convenient. I speak to lots of people who have failed in the keto way, and I try to look at why they failed. I believe one main reason is that they did the wrong type of keto for their lifestyle.

Now if you search keto diet you will come across thousands of websites promoting a ketogenic lifestyle and giving you keto recipes to try, now these are the ‘clean keto’ people, who want you to only eat meat from animals that have been fed grass that has been blessed by glorious unadulterated sunshine, the animals have been stroked every day and told how beautiful they are. Then they will suggest making a pizza out of almond flour, which looks like and does not really taste like bread.

Really! Who has the time for this, if you do and it pleases you then great, however we are all creatures of convenience, today our whole lives are based on convenience? We all have remotes for our TV’s, keyless entry on cars, we don’t have to get dressed up and go out on dates there is an app for that! If you sit and think what you can do without leaving your couch, you can eat any cuisine, order any item, get a date, even start your car remotely so your seats are warm when you get into it.

Living such a convenient lifestyle why anyone would start a diet plan that makes their life harder. It’s bound to fail, it always will. Now I do dirty keto, which means I can eat processed meats, I snack on Pepperami bars. I just count carbs not macros. I must be able to fit my diet in around my work and I don’t have time to make a 35 min prep ‘clean’ keto meal then 20 mins cooking time. I still use McDonald’s for food, 2 double cheeseburgers, and black coffee. I just throw away the buns. Its 6 grams of carbs, more importantly its very convenient when you do 13-hour night shifts.

I once told someone “My keto is so dirty it should have its own only fans page.” Which is true! But it works and I know the Keto purists will be reeling now, screaming at my page, “What about your macro’s?” etc. But remember this if nothing else.

NEVER start a diet that inconveniences your life, it WILL fail, then you will become despondent about weight loss and stay on your sofa ordering crap from just eat.

Choose ANY diet plan that fits your life.
